Any work done on the web is tricky... Very very tricky business.  You're effectively putting yourself, your business, or your group on a pedestal, for all the world to see.  If your site, or online application is something less than spectacular, you're likely to drive more visitors away than toward getting to know more about yourself, business, or group.  That doesn't mean you need thirty different pages of content and it doesn't mean you need to update it all the time with new information or articles (although that does help your search engine optimization).  Many clients just choose to have a small web presence that lists their contact information.  Others like a dynamic site that they can constantly update, and keep an active relationship with their visitors.   Either one, when done correctly, can help drive additional business, revenue, visitors, or all three.

Strickland IT Consulting has done many web presences.  Typically, Joomla, an open source CMS (content management system) is used as the web framework.  You can use it for anything from E-Commerce, photo albums, blogs or just an informational page.  Dupral, Dotnetnuke, and Wordpress have also been used, however, the opinion of Strickland IT Consulting is that Joomla provides the largest user and developer group.  This gives the advantage of constant feature releases and bug fixes.  This keeps your framework up to date and safe without having to pay the developer of a custom site, to scourer the code for any deprecated (no longer used), buggy, or slow coding.

"Why do you need to use a framework?  Why can't you just build the site from scratch if you're so good?"
Developers that use a framework hear this a lot.  And the answer is this:  "I can, and will, but it will cost more.  Why?  Because I'm reinventing the wheel every time I do something along those lines."  Why take the time to build something that already exists and is easy from which to build?  Not to mention, large open source projects like Joomla have done their homework in all things security, performance and standardization.

"Well, I have a website, and it's not built on framework, as you call it.  Are you still going to charge me more?"
NO!  If you've already had a site built, and want some modifications done to it,  it's not going to cost you any differently.  It's the core functionality that takes time to build on a true dynamic (constantly updated) website.

Strickland IT works with multiple languages, including:

  • HTML
  • XHTML
  • CSS
  • PHP
  • JAVA (script as well as J2EE applications)
  • Interfaces with MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle and PostgreSQL

Here are a few pages Strickland IT Consulting has done through Joomla.
As you can see, some of them have very recent content.  Sometimes they update weekly, and not by Strickland IT Consulting either.  That is one of the greatest advantages with Joomla.  Anyone can learn how to manage their website with just a little bit of direction.

Note:  All views, opinions, and website changes since inception are those of the Website owners only.

Strickland IT Consulting also plans, implements, diagnoses, migrates and upgrades Microsoft Sharpoint solutions!
